Sometimes, things can get to you, either physically or mentally. Physical ailments might include a compromised immune system (too much cortisol), carpal tunnel syndrome, or, in my case, a bizarre eye twitch most likely resulting from staring at computer screens too long. Mental ailments caused by stress include anxiety and depression and can be brief or chronic.
So I'm ordering myself to keep it short, to take some time to rest my eyes before I start again tomorrow. You can let some things slide when you're busy, but experience has taught me that self-care and rest shouldn't be among them.
Here's a related quote, said by the Dalai Lama when someone asked him what surprised him most:
“Man, because he sacrifices his health in order to make money.
Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then he dies having never really lived.”
