There are lots of possible reasons you might feel overwhelmed by what's going on. Maybe you've got health issues or problems with your marriage or your child is getting into trouble. Maybe you've got bills you don't know how to pay or huge decisions to make or someone you love is going through a hard time.
All these things can make it difficult to focus on what you have to do. It's hard to give 100% when your brain and your emotions and your body would rather be doing something else. But you can't change what's happening, and you still need to live, so you keep doing what you've always done.
Some people might feel that having another focus is helpful during a difficult time. They appreciate having something to take their minds off their worries. But others might have difficulty focusing on the tasks they need to do when worries loom large.
